Esther Duflo to Speak at RAND on the War Against Poverty

WHAT:

French economist Esther Duflo will speak on "Experiments, Science, and the War Against Poverty" as part of the RAND Corporation's Distinguished Speaker Series.

WHO:

Duflo is the recipient of a 2009 MacArthur Fellowship, commonly known as the "genius" grant, for her innovative work on poverty and public policy. She is currently the Abdul Latif Jameel Professor of Poverty Alleviation and Developmental Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is the co-founder of the Jameel Poverty Action Lab.

Her research focuses on microeconomic issues in developing countries, including the often disparate impact of economic interventions and social policies on women and children in developing nations.

Duflo was named one of the world's top 100 public intellectuals in the November 2009 edition of Foreign Policy magazine and was listed by The Economist as one of the world's top 8 young economists.
