Haskins Lecture to Focus on Federal Science Funding in the United States

WHAT: Princeton University President Shirley M. Tilghman will discuss "Riding the Rollercoaster: Federal Science Funding in the United States," at the RAND Corporation's annual Haskins Lecture on Science Policy.
The lecture series was established through the generosity of Caryl P. and Edna Haskins, founders of Haskins Laboratories. The Haskins were dedicated to improving the nation's understanding of the relationship between scientific progress and sound public policy.
WHO: In addition to serving as president of Princeton, Tilghman is a professor of molecular biology and a member of the National Research Council's committee that set the blueprint for the U.S. effort in the Human Genome Project. She also was one of the founding members of the National Advisory Council of the Human Genome Project for the National Institutes of Health. Tilghman is known not only for her pioneering research but also for her national leadership on behalf of women in science and for promoting efforts to make the early careers of young scientists as meaningful and productive as possible.
