Education to Be the Topic of First Speaker Series Presentation for New Abu Dhabi Office

WHAT:

The RAND Abu Dhabi office will host the first event in its speaker series with a focus on education. Education plays an increasingly important role in preparing people to enter the labor market and providing skill upgrades throughout their careers. The presentation will address the importance of education in today's knowledge economy with a specific focus on the six Gulf Cooperation Council countries of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

WHO:
  • Lynn A. Karoly, senior economist, RAND, will speak on "Education, Human Capital, and GCC Labor Markets."
  • Brian Stecher, acting director of RAND education, will speak on "Toward a Culture of Consequences: Performance Based Accountability Systems for Public Services."
  • Charles Goldman, senior economist at RAND, will speak on "Performance Monitoring for Improvement in Decentralized School Systems."
  • Hanine Salem, director of the RAND Abu Dhabi office, will serve as moderator.
